Square Dancers
American culture has become firmly anchored in the region surrounding the military training area. The members of the Amberg Square Dance Club „Squampfis“ are German. Due to their short deployment, Americans are rare guests at the dance evenings.
Jürgen R. Weissenborn is the square dance „caller“ and has the task of changing four dancing couples by calling out figures, swapping the constellations and finally reassembling them into the original square to the beat of the music. The dances are therefore not rehearsed, only the caller provides the variation and sequence through his instructions. As the dancers do not know what will follow, listening comes before the footwork.
